Carbon Balance of Miscanthus Biomass from Rhizomes and Seedlings

Biological carbon sequestration is considered an important strategy to mitigate climate change. The energy crop Miscanthus × giganteus has great potential. objective of this study was determine: a) the dry matter yield and content in aboveground belowground biomass; b) total balance plant soil pool. conducted continental Croatia (N 45°51′01.32″; E 16°10′35.85″) by destructive harvesting five-year-old stands established rhizomes (MxgR) seedlings (MxgS) spring 2021. sampling 2016 2022. average amount biomass MxgR MxgS 11.51 t/ha 9.87 t/ha, respectively, it 13.18 14.90 respectively. pool three times lower (1.67 t/ha) than that (5.03 t/ha). increased 8.7 under 14.8 during 2016–2022. Therefore, studied agroecological conditions, should be preferred over selection planting material. obtained data represent valuable input for modeling.
